What is coaching and how does it work?
So, what is coaching?
There’s no universal definition of coaching, but there are some important common strands.
For concise coaching with outstanding results, I base my practice on 3 core components:
Non-directive &
non-judgmental
I guide you to find your own answers, instead of giving you mine.
Only your own, personal outcomes and achievements will truly satisfy you and stand the test of time.
My coaching is supportive, respectful and non-judgmental. This is a partnership of equals.
Conversation-led
with effective tools
There are many excellent exercises, tools and resources we may use. In fact, it’s pretty likely we’ll be drawing on my extensive library from the get-go.
But the conversation is where the hard work is really done – questioning assumptions, looking deeper, building confidence and focusing on effective action.
Reflection, challenge & structure
I will ask you to think deeply and in new ways. I will often challenge what you say and support you to explore what’s possible beyond your comfort zone. I will hold you accountable for your actions and help you analyse your setbacks and achievements. I provide the tools and perspectives to structure your plans and actions to be as effective as possible.
My foundational and advanced training are accredited by the largest and most reputable international coaching bodies, the International Coaching Federation and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.

Coaching is not:
Teaching or training – where there are predetermined answers for you to learn
Mentoring – where the mentor tells you what to do, in order to get to where they are
Counselling or therapy – where you’re not ‘basically OK’ and the objective is to ‘get better’, often by exploring the past at length
