About Me

and why I’m the one who can help you.

Hi, I’m Paul.

It took me a while, too.

Everything was set up for success: a degree from Cambridge University, and a Master’s from Durham. Tipped for a great career, I moved from role to role in large organisations, working all hours in high-pressure environments.

And I set my sights on promotion. Because everyone knows moving up the ladder is the definition of success. Don’t they?

Before I knew it, I was adrift.

Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. So I started putting out the feelers. I did more training and looked at lateral moves, because everyone says that’s a good thing to do. I made a huge list of my strengths and skills, and tried to find jobs that matched, but even that didn’t work. Why couldn’t I find a career I wanted?

Around this time, my first daughter was born. And wow, did I find that tough. Life was not turning out how I’d pictured it when I was younger.

Then, out of nowhere, my health dropped through the floor. One day I was running a 10k, and the next I couldn’t even answer my front door. Life and careers were looking very, very different.

career and health problems

Then, out of nowhere, my health dropped through the floor. My joints ballooned overnight and I spent 3 months in bed, and much longer on crutches. One day I was running a 10k, and the next I had rheumatoid arthritis and a spinal condition. They’d been hiding, and came out to play in my mid-thirties.

I felt anxious opening emails and lost sleep every night. Precious time with my partner and children trickled away in trains and meeting rooms. Demotion would have been a relief. I wanted a balance of everything but it seemed too good to be true.

I wished I’d had definable career goals early on, and longed for an exit strategy.

But I had a mortgage. And bills to pay. And mouths to feed.

But I had a mortgage. And bills to pay. And mouths to feed.

When my second daughter arrived a few years later, and I was still stuck in a job that was wrong for me, I knew something had to change. I wasn’t spending enough time with my family, and couldn’t be the role model my girls need. My health was suffering, and fulfilling work seemed like fake news.

I got a coach. More than one, in fact. And that was a great start, but I took it further. I started to build my whole-life, 360-degree process for understanding what is truly meaningful, and making it happen.

And I saw what had always driven me: helping others rise through dilemma and challenge to find richness and meaning in life.

And that’s where you’ll find me.
